Apparently not. It contains no stimulants like caffeine etc which you'll find in Red Bull/Gurana etc... If it's as good as people say, it may promote healthy sleep because you'll work your butt off and forget to stop, then just crash out.
Gonna go buy a pack of VAAM today and put it to the test. |

It cures cancer, blindness, and warts as well!
HJ isn't a stimulant. I took two servings on my bike ride today, came home and took a shower, ate lunch, and then took a nice nap.

I'm really liking it so far after hearing about it on the show. Took it for the second time in a race setting (first time in a du). I was able to run off the bike for the first time ever with out walking (and this was an F1 style with 2 runs off the bike). I slept like a baby last night too. |

Brett,
Where are you sending everyone to purchase this crap, oops, I mean elixir of life, and nobody ever answered my question, which was how do you convince all of those hornets to give you their juice. Does PETA know about this?

I've been using HJ for a few weeks now (not for all of my training sessions). First of all It tastes like crap. If you can drink this stuff mixed with just water then you're a better person than me. The first time I tried it I mixed it with 8oz of water and thought I was drinking some sort of herbicide.
I find that if I mix one packet of HJ with a packet E-Fuel (http://www.cranksports.com) in a 24oz bike bottle it not only makes it palatable but also makes the E-Fuel taste less sweet. You know how on a long run or ride with a most fuel drinks can leave such a strong sugary taste in your mouth you feel like you're going to start pooping gumdrops. Well, the Hornet Juice negates much of that and for that I'm happy to use this stuff.
I haven't noticed any dramatic change in my workouts. Though I have had some strong workouts that I'm not yet sure if it was because of the HJ or just that these were breakthrough sessions (or a coincidence).
Before both of my masters group swim workouts last week I drank some HJ/E-Fuel about 15 minutes before the start of the workout. I noticed that I was the only one in my group at both session not sucking air. In fact, during the second workout I had to slow down to stop from lapping the last guy during the 150 intervals.
Also last week I did a 1:15 Spinerval session followed immediately by a four mile run. I had planned to run about an 8:15 pace but found my first mile to be about 7:50 and my legs felt very fresh. My pace steadily got faster over the next three miles with no noticable change in perceived effort. I finished the last mile at a 7:15 pace and felt pretty refreshed afterwards.
This past weekend I did the Montauk Century (my first century) and had three bike bottles with my mixture of E-Fuel and Hornet Juice which I spread out over the duration of the ride (with some gatorade also). Though I stopped at each of the three aid stations for about 10 minutes each I felt the ride was much easier than I expected. I actually felt strong enough to hammer a bit near the end and held a 25mph pace along a long flat section.
So, I'm not entirely convinced that it had anything to do with the HJ or my fittness has simply improved, but I've just ordered more. I'm going to do a week of workouts without any HJ and then start using it again to see if I can notice a difference in my workouts over these several weeks.
I'll report back if I become more convinced that the HJ is making a difference. |

Tom,
Don't worry buddy. Jetpack is here for you man. As the unofficial triscooper test dummy, I shall be glad to post in detail my experiences with my shipment of Hornet Juice.
It's good thing my riding trail is 10 miles long between stop lights! I'm going to need that distance just to slow down. That's if the tires don't melt first.
Shipment came in today. I met with a guy who knows a guy that knows somebody in low places. After some anonymous emails and specific code words the Jetpack put into place operation -AFTERBURNER- and has now obtained a crate of HJ.
SpecialK (a PTA) has access to fancy dancy weighing equipment. Yesterday I weighed in at 165 and 12% body fat (yuck). I've been holding 165 for months. We shall see in a month how things progress and if a noticable difference is able to be felt and/or measured.

ok i am going to post what is on the back of the package. kind of hard to see though, i hope its not the hornet juice restricing blood flow to my optic nerve :0
calories80
fat less than 1g
total carbs 11g (sugars)
protein 3.7 g
amino acid proproetary blend 3.7g
L Proline, Glycine, L-Lysine, L-Thoromine, L-Laucine, L-Trysine, L-Valine, L-Isolucine, L-Alamine, L-Arginine, L-Phynylalinine, L-L-Glutemic Acid, LTryptophan, LHisitdine, L-Mathamine, L-Serine, L-Aspartic Acid
Excuse the spelling, i honestly cant read the text, but thats just my old eyes.
the brochure that came with the hj states its ok to have the stuff with a carb/electrolyte drink, but states Do Not Take with Protein Drinks. dont understad that.
assumign one is eating a well balanced diet, how does a 'proprietary blend' of amino acids provide anything you are not already getting?

I think this is one of those pump up a companies stock scams that Brett is participating in...you know, just like those spam emails giving you a hot stock tip that drives a $.06 cent stock up to $.014 really quickly so the scammer can profit. Brett is a shareholder of HJ, Inc...I bet!
Sorry Brett...this General will not accept this order...please don't demote me!

Yes! Don't take it. Leaves more for me! Jetpack needs to stay away from it more than anybody I know.
Moonpie, looks like you were hopped up on VAAM when you tried to draw that cirle and slash.
It's got a particular balance of proteins that gets messed up if you take it with other protein. You have to get the balance right or it doesn't work as well. I've had times where it didn't work great because I dinked with the blend and other times where I nailed it and I thought I was riding a cruise missile. When it works, there is absolutely no mistaking that you are hopped up on something out of this world.
The bad taste is a signal to me that it's good sheet. If it was made up, they'd make it all sweet and yummy. I actually like the taste, anyway.
Tyler, you specifically need to take it with peanut butter, tuna, and a tall glass of whole milk. Everybody else, don't mix it with protein.
I've gotten half a dozen emails from folks who are trying it and can't believe how awesome it is. Just responded to one a few minutes ago. But hey, if you don't like it or think it doesn't work, no problemo. Go back to whatever you were using. And send me your leftovers.

VAAM rocks yo!!! Tastes not too bad either- kinda grapefruity.
Best even on an empty stomach, when nothing else in your system's gonna mess with it. If you do have to eat, just a light carb snack is best.
But it suggests no protein within 2 to 4 hours prior to using it.
I rocked a serving mixed with some Gatorade pow and it was a tasty tasty %$@!tail. And I hadn't eaten any breakfast before my workout.
Bottom line- I've never swam so comfortably for so long. Only 2400m, but ya'll know I'm only just on the comeback trail.
RATIN' IT!!!
Would like to try HJ tho, just for comparison's sake. But unavailable here in Japan. |
